Tech&Music – An Exploration of Music’s Impact and Evolution on Culture

Welcome! I’m thrilled to introduce Tech&Music, a blog dedicated to highlighting musicians making an impact. We will dive into the ever-evolving impact of technology in the world of music, its creators, their fans and the impact music and technology has on the business of music and culture.

Experience

As a lifelong music enthusiast, I started attending concerts at a very young age and was exposed to all genres of music growing up. I’ve always been intrigued by the power music holds. It evokes emotion, provokes thought, and pushes for change. My exposure to the behind the scenes aspect of the music business has helped me understand artists who write their own music versus artists who write songs for the singer. Both are equally talented, but I do believe that there is a difference between the two, and that difference makes an impact on fans. I have experience working as a production assistant for musicians, and have seen and been inspired by all the work that goes into producing music videos, songwriting and more. Having grown up before platforms like spotify and apple music and watched as those platforms began to infiltrate the world, I feel I have a unique perspective. I have seen first hand the impacts technology has made to not just the music industry, but myself and others.

Tech&Music focuses on various intersecting themes: the countless musicians making an impact on culture, the music industry and the transformative influence of technology and social media. I want to share stories of artists who have made a positive mark on music history whether through empowering their fans, optimizing their platform, spreading a positive message through music, or utilizing technology as it rapidly advances. Conversely, I think it is important to highlight some of the challenges musicians face as technology and the industry evolves. Among these are how AI is sabotaging creativity, undermining musicians, and diminishing the share of music royalties paid to artists and songwriters from streaming platforms. There are so many different parts of creating and producing music and I want to explore some of those aspects.

My primary goal is to shed light on the multifaceted world of music, technology and culture. From the influence of technology on music production to the impact of melodies and lyrics on social movements, I seek to uncover the underlying dynamics that drive cultural shifts. Whether it’s how musicians, both new and old, have altered the way fans interact with their content, or how technology has shifted the way people learn about and interact with music. Through insightful analysis and research, I will strive to provide an understanding of the forces shaping the business of music today.
